Sorrel - Rules of Play Bristol

Say hello to Sorrel!

With the official opening of our new Bristol store comes the official appointment of 3 new fantastic staff members!

In this one, we welcome Sorrel, one of our newest Rules of Play elves! Take it away!

Hey! I'm Sorrel and I'm studying a Masters degree in Science Communication so I love sciencey games like Pandemic and Compounded.

I’m a keen amateur designer and I like making games that teach people scientific concepts and processes.

I also love really specific games based around really niche interests like The Palace of Mad King Ludwig or ‘Herbarium’. I haven’t played them yet but I’m delighted that they exist.

This is my first time working in a games shop and I feel like a kid in a chocolate factory!

What’s your favourite board game?

Terraforming Mars - great science, lots of time to sit and plot. I love games with plenty of plotting and scheming.

I also love Magic the Gathering but I’ve had to dial it back before it bankrupts me!

If you had to pick a least favourite board game, what would you pick?

It’s a great game but I’m going to say Twilight Struggle on the basis that no matter how often I play, I never ever win.

Favourite gaming memory?

Introducing the family to Munchkin at Christmas - backstabbers, all of them!

What are you most looking forward to about working in a games shop?

Helping people find THE game that they will play over and over again.

Stamina and the will to carry on are both important traits in gamers! What’s your longest gaming session record?

Eight hours playing D&D. We don’t talk about it.

What is your ideal weekend in Bristol? Any recommendations for visitors?

I’m a science nerd so I love the botanical gardens and the planetarium. For food I would get all-you-can-eat Sushi from Yatta! on Nelson Street and for coffee and cinnamon buns Full Court Press (which is also handy for Rules of Play Bristol!).

What TV series / film would you love to be turned into a game?

Jonathan Creek or failing that - Alan Partridge.

What game are you particularly looking forward to playing but haven’t yet?

Scythe - looks intriguing and I’ve heard lots of good things.

Thanks, Sorrel!! Pop in and say hello to our brand new member of staff at our Bristol shop.
