Which board game should you play this Halloween?

Which board game should you play this Halloween?

The season of rotting pumpkin flesh and spiderwebs is upon us! Joy fills the air!

We don't know about you, but we looove Halloween. Autumnal leaves, children bouncing off the walls from sugar, people dressed up as clowns and - ah, okay, maybe not that last one.

Whatever you're planning to do on the 31st of October, allow us to help you decide on the game! Board games are incredible immersive experiences for when you want a good old-fashioned scare, so we've compiled this guide for which game goes with what kind of evening.

For a fright-filled family party with kids and adults, choose...

Mysterium

Mysterium board game

In the family board game Mysterium, players work together to unlock an old and haunting mystery... You'll hold a seance with a ghost to figure out the questions surrounding his death. The only problem is that this ghost can't talk!

Using beautifully illustrated cards, guesswork and teamwork, players must work together to solve the case before the timer runs out.

Having a gathering with friends? Choose...

Betrayal at House on the Hill

Betrayal at House on the Hill board game

Betrayal at House on the Hill is a tile-based board game that allows players to build their own haunted house room by room, tile by tile.

Secretly, one of the players betrays the rest of the party, and the innocent members of the party must defeat the traitor in their midst before it’s too late!

If you're a fan of The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Zombieland, or anything else zombie-related, choose...

Dead of Winter

Dead of Winter board game

In this cooperative zombie thriller, players are immersed into a snow-capped frozen wasteland of death and decay, where they must work together to thrive (not just survive).

Dead of Winter is a rich and rewarding board game that I am PERSONALLY RECOMMENDING TO YOU! The feeling of encroaching zombies on the game board is truly, truly awful. *shudder*

For a quiet night in watching horror films, choose...

Dark Stories

Dark Stories card game

Dark Stories are fiddly, morbid and mysterious riddles for teenagers and adults, perfect for a spooky night in watching the Horror Channel and trying to ignore the creaking from upstairs...

One player reads part of a crime, and the rest try to reconstruct and solve it by asking, guessing, and questioning.

Also available: Dark Stories 2 (hear the end of a twisted story & try to figure out its beginning) and Dark Stories: Real Crime Edition (where every crime is real).

Travelling to a Halloween party? Choose...

Monster Fluxx

Monster Fluxx card game

If you're headed to a fancy dress party, get in the mood with your travel-sized Monster Fluxx card game!

A perfect party game, this is a horror-tastic twist on the old classic.

For a depressing family dinner, choose...

Gloom

Gloom card game for Halloween gatherings

In the Gloom card game, you assume control of the fate of an eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes.

The goal of the game is sad, but simple: you want your characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. Pain and suffering abound in this miserable little game. We love it!

We hope we've helped in your Halloween planning! As a spooky treat from us, here's our favourite seasonal song...
