Battle of the Star Wars Board Games

the best star wars board games

As a newly converted Star Wars fan, it's about time I talked about some of the Star Wars gaming gold out there across the galaxy.

If you've seen The Force Awakens (four times, am I right?!) and you're looking for the perfect way to extend your Star Wars moment with some intergalactic fun, we list some of the best Star Wars games on offer.

Already know what game you're looking for? Check out our Star Wars X-Wing collection, or our Star Wars: Destiny RPG collection!

1. Star Wars X-Wing: The Force Awakens - 2 players, 45 minutes

Hey, look! It's got the name of the new film! Ahhhhh - REY FINN BB-8 PLANET OF JAKKU HAN SOLO I LOVE STAR WARRRRRS! Featuring beautifully detailed painted miniatures, X-Wing: The Force Awakens is a two-player game of dramatic starfighter battles set in the Star Wars universe.

You and your opponent take command of Resistance X-wings and First Order TIE fighters, then battle head-to-head for the fate of the galaxy. Secretly plot your maneuvers, fly at your enemies, take aim, and fire.

It takes just minutes to learn the rules, and you’ll find plenty of Star Wars action to explore and enjoy for years to come!

2.  Star Wars Armada - 2 players, 120 minutes

In the heavier Star Wars: Armada that's perfect for some deep space family game time, you can live out Star Wars's epic space battles!

In this game, you command the unmatched power of the Imperial fleet, or gain the opportunity to prove your tactical acumen as an admiral in the Rebel Alliance. Massive Star Destroyers fly to battle against Rebel corvettes and frigates.

Banks of turbolasers unleash torrential volleys of fire against squadrons of X-wings and TIEs. Assemble your fleet, survey your objectives, form your battle plan, plot your course, call your shots, and destroy the enemy.

3. Star Wars: Imperial Assault - 2-5 players, 1-2 hours

Star Wars: Imperial Assault casts you and your friends into the climactic events following the Death Star’s destruction above Yavin 4, and offers two full game experiences within the Star Wars saga.

In the campaign game, you and up to four other friends play a series of thrilling missions woven together in a narrative campaign, and in the skirmish game, you and your opponent muster your own strike teams and battle head-to-head over conflicting objectives.

A weightier game for fans of the franchise, and a perfect game-play for gaming groups who love Star Wars!

Hey, James! I’ve just checked and we don’t actually carry that Star Wars game (which is why it wasn’t on my radar) but I shall check it out, post-haste!

And Jamie – good luck with the game! You will definitely get sucked in!

James Todd - January 25, 2016

I can’t believe Star Wars Epic Duels didn’t make the list! Hours of fun battling legends from the original and prequel trilogies against each other.

Jamie - January 20, 2016

Imperial Assault looks pretty cool – I should be trying my first game of X-Wing next week (and a few friends are big fans of it) so I may get sucked into that world soon!
