Game Of The Week – Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island. Ahh! It's like we're in Lost - we're stranded on an island and we won't stop for another 6 series! Robinson Crusoe was one of the break-out hits of 2013, and is still as much watery fun as ever! In the game, players must work together to survive after being shipwrecked on a mysterious and dangerous island. An adventure for 1-4 players, Robinson Crusoe delivers deep strategy, a wonderfully evocative theme and takes co-operative games to the next level. With six different scenarios, there’s bundles of replayability, but be warned, this game provides a serious challenge, and you’ll struggle to survive! For more information, check out the great video reviews from Tom Vasel and Joel Eddy. And stop talking about coconuts - you've gone mad, I tell you! Mad!

 The Tinkerbots

The UK Games Expo Is Happening! Right now as I type, thousands upon thousands of game fans will be wandering through the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, their eyes filled with tears of joy as they stare around them at BOARD GAME HEAVEN. If you see Rules of Play's very own Ian (pictured above), then be sure to wander over to say hello and tell him your fave game in our shop! And if you see the Tinkerbots (pictured above underneath) then enter their competition to win a copy of the XCOM board game, donated by us! There are loads of ways to enter - you could tell them a board game joke, a board game magic moment or simply grab a selfie with them and share it on Twitter! Visit this page to see the whole competition and find out all the ways to enter - and if you're at the Expo this weekend, then have fun and feel the wrath of my jealousy!

Celebrate Books With Word Games! It's not just the Games Expo drumming up some serious buzz; the annual literature festival at Hay-on-Wye kicked off 8 days ago and lasts until this Sunday! I'll be going there myself on Saturday and no doubt I'll go a bit googly-eyed - books, books everywhere! If you can't make it but you're still feeling a bit book-ish, why not celebrate by playing a game that uses stories, words, and epic tales? Snake Oil is a game that sees players pitch random items to specific customers - there's a reason a cheerleader needs a space glove, and you'll be the one to find it! Once Upon a Time treads the more traditional route of storytelling, with players jumping in to carry on with the fairytale. If you like your games dark and morbid, try Gloom! Players control family members who thrive on being miserable. Craft sad stories to win, but don't forget to dole out dollops of happiness to your opponents! If you're sick of the Summer already, check out Winter Tales, a game of warring stories where players must champion either Spring or endless Winter in the bid to win. Then there's the ultimate grand-daddy of stories - anything RPG! The Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game is a must for any keen story-tellers. Don't feel intimidated; it's just a great way to tell mythical stories with your mates!

Back At The Board Game Bar! This Monday, we're back at Urban Tap House (where else would we be?!) from 5-10pm with our stacks of board games! Come along and check us out! £3 entry.

Once Upon a Time is great fun, but you have to have players who are willing to get creative.
If they aren’t then Gloom is better as the cards give more prompts to the players to craft their tales around.
