Game Of The Week - Racing DemonOn your marks... get set... OH CRAP, ALL HELL HAS BROKEN LOOSE! In Racing Demon - also known as 'the fastest card game known to man' - players jump into a game of what is essentially Solitaire on acid. You grab a deck of cards each, deal 12 face down and 1 face up into what is your 'Demon pile', then 4 more in a line, all face up. Any early Ace cards are put in the middle of the table to become the basis of a stack. Now players must place their cards in ascending order on top of those Aces. You can use the remainder deck in your hand, the top card from your Demon pile or any of the 4 cards in a line - as long as they're the next card in the middle stack, of course! Extra points are earned by whoever places the final King into a now-finished stack, but the winner is whoever empties their Demon pile first. Then you all score points, write them down, pass your colourful deck to the next person then DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IN THE DEPTHS OF FAST-PACED HELL. The game comes in both 4 player and 6 player versions, and both sets are beautifully packaged in black boxing with red trimming for that extra lovely touch.

Haha Lolz Omg Totes. For fans of both Scrabble and text speak, the two worlds have FINALLY collided into one giant hot mess! If you thought thinking how to turn letter tiles into obscure words was totally bogus and sooooo retro then you're in luck - the Scrabble dictionary has expanded into the realms of ridiculousness and added in text and internet slang! Among the new words added are 'lolz', 'shizzle', 'shoutout', 'lotsa', 'obvs' and 'dench'. I know right, wtf haha. Not everyone's happy of course - Sue Bowman, membership secretary of the British Association of Scrabble Players, has dismissed it as 'an abuse of the English language' and 'a huge marketing ploy'. Well done Sue! That's 27 points!

Talking With Tinkerbots! Our lovely friends over at Tinkerbot Games are hosting a COMPLETELY FREE event at 6pm on Friday 12th June at Katiwok on Crwys Road, dedicated to board game design! If you don't know of their stuff, they're a team of game loverz who discuss games in their Talking Tinkerbots podcast AND design their own, too! The event will start with short, 5 minute talks on subjects like 3D printing prototypes and how to build a great social media following, the right and the wrong way! Then you'll jump into the 'hacking' sesh, where you'll break into groups and discuss solutions to particular design concepts. After that and a group discussion, you'll chill out with a beer and talk all things board games! The event's for literally anyone interested in board game design - no need to have made one yourself! For more information about this Board Game Design Hack event, check out the official Eventbrite page that includes all the specifics. (P.S. If you're reading this and planning to attend, then please, as a tiny favour to me - just chuck in a mention about 'edible board games'. You know, like, pizza, chocolate, Ticket to Ride made out of gummy bears, you get the drill. Just, uh, make it happen. I get hungry a lot.)

Simulated Fun With Friends. In recent exasperating news, someone obviously thought board games were making people too sociable and fun, leading to the creation of this TableTop Simulator. It's basically a way to play games around a table... on the internet. Because this is what the human race does, people. It makes video games that feel too isolated, so it makes board games that feel too real, so it combines them to make a 'video board game' that pleases a specific niche of people. It's like those self-service checkouts at Tesco - they were originally designed to make things faster, easier and smoother, but quite often the failure of the technology and people's desire to avoid human interaction means that I have genuinely seen huge queues for the self-service checkouts while a real human checkout cashier is sitting 10 feet away with nothing to scan. When will we stop spending money to make such ridiculous things! The only positive of this simulator is that it helps those who don't have access to regular gaming groups, or who are unable to meet up with friends. BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT'S STUPID. AND NO, THERE IS NOT AN UNIDENTIFIED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA.
