Game of the Week – Bridget. From the people that brought you Pucket, the world’s No. 1 elasticated board game comes the world’s No. 1 bridge-building game, Bridget. A beautiful, tactile abstract strategy game for 2 players, Bridget is simple to learn but has surprising depth. Each player attempts to build a bridge with their wooden pieces from one side of the board to the other, which would be easy if it wasn’t for the other player thwarting your efforts. Twilight Struggle Stays Analogue. Over the past few years, we’ve seen many boardgames make the transition to digital formats with great success. However, for those people who’ve been hoping to play highly-rated cold war strategy gameTwilight Struggle on their PCs we have some bad news. GMT has cancelled their planned digital version of the game. It seems as though this tense Soviet-US standoff will remain face-to-face for the time being.
From the Defiant to Dragons. Following the massive success of Star Trek Attack Wing, WizKids have announced a new licensed game based around the FlightPath system originally used in Star Wars X-Wing, and this time they’re embracing one of the biggest fantasy worlds ever. Dungeons & Dragons Attack Wing is scheduled to be released in October, giving players the opportunities to engage in epic dragon duels. Watch this space for more details!
D&D Next Release Date This Summer? Its not only a new miniatures battle game that should excite fans of Dungeons & Dragons. The long-awaited 5th edition of the world’s most famous tabletop roleplaying game may be released this Summer. After some positive feedback from beta testing, we’re really excited about finally getting our hands on the completed version.
Super(heroic) Dice Game Assembles. Wizkids Games have announced Marvel Dice Masters, a game based in the Marvel universe. Combining elements of the hit dice-building game Quarriors with collectable card games, the first set will feature your favourite heroes and villains from The Avengers and X-Men, and should be available from next month. Tom Vasel has managed to get his hands on a pre-release copy, and his glowing video review (and very affordable pricing) has us very excited indeed!
24 Hour Gaming for Charity. Cardiff University Gaming Society is hosting a 24 hour gaming session at the Student’s Union from noon tomorrow until noon on Sunday! As well as LAN-based computer games, there will also be board games available to play, with all profits from the event being donated to Sport Relief. The event is open to all, and a great opportunity to play some great games and raise some money for a great cause.
Roleplaying With CROW. We’re teaming up for a roleplaying event with the lovely people from CROWat Rules of Play this Sunday. Whether you’re a veteran of numerous campaigns or brand-new to roleplaying, this is a great opportunity to meet new players and a great introduction to the wonder of roleplaying.
Gaming at The Gate (with added Dismemberment!). We’ll be back at Gate Arts for our regular monthly boardgames evening on Monday 31st March from 7pm. As well as a brilliant and eclectic range of games to play, we’re also very happy to be welcoming Andrew Harman, who will be bringing along copies of his brand new game Frankenstein’s Bodies, giving you all the opportunity to create your own monsters!
International Tabletop Day. Don’t forget that itsInternational Tabletop Day on Saturday April 5th. We’ll be running all-day open board gaming in the shop from 11am, and then migrating over to The Gate from 7pm to indulge in some great games, with some fantastic freebies to give away.
