Game of the Week - Freedom: The Underground Railroad. With so many boardgames focused on conflict or European colonialist eras, its great to find a game covering lesser known historical periods and social issues. Freedom: The Underground Railroad is a co-operative game for 1-4 players. In the game, you play the role of abolitionists attempting to help slaves escape from America to the backdrop of the Civil War. With a thought provoking and well-incorporated theme and excellent gameplay, Freedom: The Underground Railway comes very highly recommended for anyone with an interest in this period of history, or those looking looking for a unique and powerful gaming experience. For more information, check out the video reviews from Tom Vasel and Joel Eddy (who made Freedom his game of 2013).
A Cornishman, an Italian and a Welshman Walk Into Rules of Play…. Gino, Tony and Bevan are three regular customers of Rules of Play. Not content with being lovely people with a deep love of all things gaming related, the three have setupTinkerbot Games, having had 2 of their games designs chosen as finalists in the UK Games Expo Redesign competition. The trio will be at the 2014 UK Games Expo in Birmingham at the end of the month, demoing their wonderful games Epic Lab Time (where you get to be a brilliant and possibly mad scientist) and Hack the Block (where you use your hacking skills to take down faceless and sinister corporations). If you’re lucky enough to make it to the expo, make sure to say hi to the guys, and if you have chance, try out what may well be future boardgame hits! Congratulations to Gino, Tony and Bevan, and here’s hoping we’ll have your games on the shelves soon!

Feline Thoughts on Boardgames. There’s a lot of great gaming information and reviews onBoardgamegeek, but some of our favourites are the thoughts of Arwen the Cat, who very gratefully delivers an often-overlooked feline perspectives on boardgames. If you’ve ever wondered how cat-friendly your potential purchases are (or just want a good chuckle) they’re well worth checking out.
You Know What Chess Has Always Needed? That’s Right, Space Marines. The Warhammer 40K universe has lent itself to numerous games over the years, but we were still somewhat surprised to read that its next target is venerable strategy classic chess.Warhammer 40,000 Chess: Regicide is currently in development, and due for release sometime later in the year.
