Game of the Week – Space Cadets: Dice Duel. Raise shields … lock phasers on target … Fire! Space Cadets: Dice Duel is a fantastic team-based game for 4-8 players in which you’ll captain two ships in a frantic (and often chaotic) space duel. Players will divide into two teams in a loving tribute to bridge crews of the Starship Enterprise, with different players acting as captain or manning engineering, sensors, weapons, shields, helm, or tractor beams. Similar to the brilliant Escape: Curse of the Temple, games play out in real-time, with each player rolling loads of custom dice to determine potential actions (and inducing much shouting between players). Great fun for groups, the game is also remarkably fast, with games generally only taking 15 to 30 minutes. For more information, check out the video review from Tom Vasel and Shut Up and Sit Down’s coverage of the game. Make it so!
Pandemic: Legacy Announced. The big, big news of the week is that Z-Man Games have announced Pandemic: Legacy. Taking the most popular co-operative boardgame and adding the genius campaign mode of Risk Legacy offers the potential of something really, really special. There’s no release date yet, but we’ll keep you informed of any progress. Needless to say, this has jumped to the very top of our most anticipated future releases.
Prepare for Conquest. Warhammer 40K is the latest universe receiving Fantasy Flight’s Living Card Game treatment is the forthcoming Conquest. The base game will be released later this year, and give two players 7 factions with which to fight for glory. A recent preview detailing some of the cards of the Ork faction give every indication that this could be the card game that 40K fans have been waiting for.
Rob Florence’s Top 50 Boardgames. Rab Florence’s extensive overview of his favourite boardgames of all time has finally been completed. The video of the Top 10 games has finally been released, but don’t forget to check out the full list, and this great write-up of those games which didn’t quite make the list, but why they’re still great.
